Over the years, Gregg Tracey has been called a Renaissance Man, and for good reason: expressing his creativity through music (in bands, as singer/songwriter, as luthier), and the visual arts (paintings, carving, woodcut prints . . .), and for the last several years of his life, life itself became art. He followed his muse wherever she led.

When a rare and aggressive terminal cancer entered the picture in 2019, it struck hard and fast, nearly taking him out. And that was when two young friends - knowing that many people have benefitted from Gregg’s sharing of his gifts over the last half century – asked if he would accept a fundraising benefit. It was a life-changer: the love, gratitude and support which flowed into his life filled him with the passion to use the time he had left to delve ever more deeply, finding his truth through his art.

His artwork deeply and richly expresses his intimate connection with nature. Many pieces reveal the end result of his fifty years spent expressing his passion for the ocean. Comments about this work: “I can hear the waves.” I can smell the ocean.” “These paintings are so full of nature’s power but also her grace.” “It is as if he is somehow expressing the energy of the ocean’s dance with water, earth, sky, and the fire of the sun.”

Gregg Tracey is represented in the Nova Scotia Art Bank. His work is also part of the Bronfman’s Claridge Collection in Montreal and the Robert C Hain Collection in Nova Scotia.
